Peer Writing Tutor Application Information
Peer
Writing Tutors
Peer
tutors are undergraduates
chosen based on the strength of their application, faculty recommendation, and interview,
and they have taken
a rigorous training course on how to tutor writing. They
are familiar with the expectations of professors,
lecturers, and teaching fellows in the PWR and IHUM programs, WIM courses, and other writing-intensive courses.
HWC writing tutors are prepared to help students at any
stage of the writing process and can work with you on any piece
of writing, from research paper to a lab report to a personal statement to a grant proposal. Tutors are best utilized as a resource for improving
the overall quality of a paper, as opposed to simply acting
as proofreaders or spell-checkers. Peer
Writing Tutors work for four hours per
week on a drop-in basis in the Writing
Center and in other locations around
campus.
Resident
Writing Tutors
Resident Writing Tutors are Peer Writing Tutors who live and hold their office
hours in a specific dorm. They schedule four to six office hours per week
and are available to their residents for an additional two hours per week.
